The special election to fill the At-Large Group 3 City Council seat will take place on Tuesday, February 22 with early voting going on around Jacksonville from Feb. 12th to the 20th. And both candidates could not be more different.
The candidates are Democrat Tracye Polson and Republican Nick Howland who have little experience in the world of politics compared to the typical politician. The one thing they have in common is both lost campaign runs for local elections in 2018, but that shouldn't be a barometer to validate their leadership potential.
62-year old Polson is a psychologist with decades of experience in social work and as a counselor for adults and children. In her campaign's website, the doctor presents her platform with her specific goals if elected to serve in the city council.
Among her plans are to serve her community more than catering to corporations or large companies which appear to give more priority to profit over needs of local residents. At the same time she wants to help small companies so they can have more opportunites to grow and further succeed.
Polson pledges to give priority to public safety with her support of law enforcement and police officers by, among other actions, creating a better connection between them and the local community through her experience in her field of expertise. She also commits to stand by the African American residents, other minorities, and the LGBTQ community with initiatives to bring about more equality and opportunities while fighting discrimination in all forms.

"So many people that work with me and that know me for many years have trusted me, and as a social worker I have gotten the trust of many in my practice and their lives have improved," Polson said to those who may have doubts about her delivering on her promises as a local leader.
Nick Howland, 48, is a Navy veteran and an executive for more than 20 years for defense contract and military and marine equipment companies. The former navy officer also manages The Fire Watch, a non-profit organization to prevent or reduce suicide among veterans and members of the military. Howland doesn't have a platform of goals and initiatives as a potential city council member on his campaign website. But, according to public reports, he's promised to give priority to getting resources for local "police, firemen and veterans" if he's elected. Howland didn't return calls and emails from Hola News to answer questions about his goals as a possible municipal leader.
The candidate who gets the most votes will replace the late Council President (and former Mayor) Tommy Hazzouri, who died last year from lung surgery complications.

La elección especial para escoger el próximo concejal mayoritario número 3 se realizará el 22 de febrero con opción de voto temprano de Febrero 12 al 20 alrededor de Jacksonville. Y los dos candidatos que compiten no podrían ser más diferentes.
Ellos son la demócrata Tracye Polson y el republicano Nick Howland quienes tienen poca experiencia en el mundo de la política. Lo que tienen en común es que ambos perdieron campañas para elecciones locales en el 2018.
Polson es una psicóloga de 62 años con décadas de experiencia en el campo de trabajo social y como terapista para niños y adultos. En el sitio Web de su campaña, la doctora presenta una plataforma que lista sus metas si es efectivamente elegida como concejal de Jacksonville.
Entre sus ideales está servir más a la comunidad que las corporaciones o compañías gigantes que dan más prioridad a las ganancias que las necesidades de los residentes de la ciudad. Al mismo tiempo quiere respaldar compañías pequeñas para que tengan más oportunidades de crecer.

El ex-militar tambien lidera el Fire Watch, una organizacion sin animo de lucro para prevenir o reducir el suicidio de soldados y veteranos traumatizados.
